On behalf of the Macon County Health Department staff, it is with great sadness that we inform the public that Jerry Andrews, former Administrator of the Macon County Health Department, passed away this morning. Jerry ‘s work at the Health Department spanned over 43 years, including 25 years as the Administrator. Jerry dedicated his life to the health and well-being of all Macon County residents; and he was a visionary, a progressive leader, a mentor, a friend, and a great force in many, many lives.  read more ...

Do You Have A Chronic Condition or Are You A Caregiver for Someone With Chronic Conditions?
The Senior Center will be hosting Take Charge of Your Health: Live Well, Be Well, a free six-week class developed through Stanford University. The program provides participants with tools to better self-manage their health conditions and live a healthier, happier life. Classes will meet at the Senior Center on Mondays from 1:00-3:30 pm starting March 12, 2012. Not sure the class is for you? Starting Point will present an informational session and “Class Zero” at the Senior Center on Monday, March 5th at 1:00 pm. Join Us in the Obesity Prevention Coalition's Macon County Wellness Challenge!
The Wellness Challenge is a flexible, 10-week, team based physical activity and nutrition program designed to promote regular and sustainable physical activity, health awareness, and the maintenance of healthy behavior. Participants set their own goals based upon how active they already are or would like to be. Plus, they benefit from the social support of belonging to a team. In addition, all participants will receive weekly motivational emails and e-newsletters. Prizes will be awarded according to each team’s average points at the end of the challenge.
