The purpose of this program can be simply stated as to provide a safe blood supply. All Body Art establishments are inspected at least twice a year in Macon County. Under the IDPH Body Art Code, establishments will be inspected at a minimum of once a year. Under the Macon County Body Art Ordinance, establishments will be inspected at a minimum of once a year. Some of the things that we are looking for during these inspections include, but are not limited to, Hepatitis B Vaccination of all artists, Blood-Borne Pathogen training completed on a yearly basis for all artists, monthly spore testing of their autoclave, proper hygienic practices of not only the artists but also for body art procedures, making sure the owner of the establishment is taking proper responsibility for all work done at the facility, and the overall sanitation of the facility.
The Macon County Health Department must also be notified prior to any new establishment beginning anybody art procedures. From there, we will sit down with the owner and make sure that all regulations from the IDPH Body Art Code and the Macon County Health Department Body Art Ordinance are met prior to opening.
